PhD in Psychology
Dr. Carrie York is a Wellness Consultant and Head of American Center for Wellness. She has a PhD in Psychology (USA), an MA in Middle East Studies (AUB-Lebanon), and a BA in International Studies (USA). She is a member of the National Wellness Institute (USA) and the American Psychological Association.
In addition to her administrative position at the Center she also offers an array of services such as private consultations, lectures, and support groups. Her area of expertise has to do with the spiritual dimension of wellness and includes helping people grapple with questions such as why has this happened to me? and what is the purpose of my life? When such questions are addressed and understood within the context of any of life’s troubles (an unhappy marriage or relationship, grieving the death of a loved one, being diagnosed with an illness, debt, losing a job, divorce) one can move towards greater wholeness and wellbeing. She is also the editor of the Center’s monthly newsletter Spirit!
Dr. Carrie is also a researcher and has authored several papers and articles on various complementary and alternative treatments such Islamic healing for non-Muslims and Reiki, as well as cross-cultural ethics. She also lectures on topics such as spiritual and transpersonal psychology, complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), prayer as a healing modality, and other spiritual topics in psychology, health, and wellness.
Dr. Carrie is originally from upstate New York. She has been living in the UAE since 2004 and has also lived in various other countries such as France, Russia, Latvia, Turkey, Lebanon, and Singapore. She possesses a high level of cultural sensitivity and is experienced in working with and understanding people from many social backgrounds. She is married to an Iraqi and they live with their children in Shahama.
