Ingrid Krynauw obtained her honors and Master’s degree in psychology at the University of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa. She is married with two children and moved to the UAE in mid 2009.
Before moving to Abu Dhabi, She had her own private practices in Mpumalanga and Johannesburg, South Africa, which focused on the treatment of serious forms of psychological distress and psychopathology.
Her focus areas include children, adolescents and adults. Her scope of practice for children ranges from the assessment of learning, behavioral and emotional difficulties (such as ADHD, Tourette’s disorder), to the treatment of various forms of anxiety and depression (which can manifest itself in separation anxiety, bedwetting, anger outbursts, etc). This is done via qualitative and quantitative assessment tools as well as no-directed and directed play therapy for younger patients. Therapy for children includes a systemic approach, which means including the parents and providing parental guidance and support.
Her scope of practice for adolescents and adults include the treatment of anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, abusive relationships, bereavement, trauma, couple/marital counseling, stress management, anger management, and assertiveness training.
Ingrid makes use of various treatment modalities depending on the needs of the patient, and these modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy, brief strategic therapy, interpersonal relationship therapy, and client centered therapy. Therapy also includes pre-and post surgery counseling for patients undergoing traumatic surgery (such as bypass surgery) or for patients that was diagnosed with a critical illness.
