Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

At times life can get a bit overwhelming. It is appropriate to seek help with any situation that:

  • Occupies considerable time in your thoughts.
  • Has you constantly telling yourself, “it’s not really that bad,” or “it will get better with time,” but which has not improved.
  • Causes physical symptoms.
  • Drains your energy and enthusiasm.
  • Makes you wish that there was somewhere to turn for help.

What is EAP?
EAP is a confidential and comprehensive assessment, short-term counselling, and referral service for employees and their family members who are experiencing personal or work-related problems that have a negative impact on work performance or personal life.
EAP is designed to diminish risk, reduce costs, and enhance employee productivity, leading to a more energetic, positive, and productive workplace.

Training and Development Services

Stress is a fact of life: one which we all face, each in his or her own way. In today’s fast-paced, highly volatile, and inter-connected world, stress is inevitable. How we handle stress – at work and in our personal life – is what makes the difference. Stress can either motivate us to do our best and excel, or it can wear us down until we feel exhausted and burned-out.

ACPN Training and Development Services aim to facilitate positive change and personal growth for individuals, groups, and organizations through seminars, workshops, and training courses. Our activity-based learning methods provide real-life solutions for transforming different types of stress into energy, derived from the psychology of peak performance.

Since 2009, ACPN has managed to run over 300 training and professional development programs under two main categories: Medical Seminars and Conferences, and Corporate Courses and Workshops. To date, more than 20,000 people have participated in these training programs.

Our Training and Development Programs include:

  • Stress Management
  • Resilience Building
  • Anger Management
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Change Management
  • Workplace Anxiety Management
  • Emotional Intelligence

Critical Incident Stress Management and Debriefing Services

Stress is a normal part of everyday life, and employees can develop a variety of strategies and techniques to manage it. Minimising employee stress and burnout at work has become a major management issue. Some degree of stress is considered essential to maintain interest and stimulation in the work environment, however, there are many situations that may cause stress over and above what is regarded as normal. These are termed ‘critical incidents’, and the stress caused by them is called Critical Incident Stress (CIS).

What is Critical Incident Stress?

“A physical and psychological response to an incident that presents a worker or team with complex, intense or threatening situations, and requires the mobilisation of an unusual intensity of emotional energy and professional skill. It causes a high degree of neurological arousal that involves important chemical changes in the brain and behavioural and emotional changes”. (Mitchell & Everly, 1993).

What is Critical incident stress management (CISM)?

Critical incident stress management (CISM) is a set of arrangements that are initiated by a critical incident and draw on pre-established protocols and procedures to ensure that all aspects of the employees’ needs regarding stress are met.

Smoking Cessation Program

Tobacco is the number one cause of preventable death in the world today. Tobacco-related illnesses already kill 5.4 million people every year. If current trends continue, smoking will kill more than 8 million people every year by 2030, over 80% of whom will live in low- and middle-income countries. Tobacco consumption causes respiratory illnesses, lung diseases, several types of cancers, and cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including heart disease and stroke.

In developed countries, smoking is responsible for 90% of all cases of lung cancer in men and up to 86% of all cases in women. Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer among men. In the USA, lung cancer is the leading cause of death overall among women.

In the EU, about 26% of all deaths from any form of cancer are caused by smoking. 16% of all deaths from Cerebrovascular Disease (CVD) in men, and 5% in women, are caused by smoking. More than 64% of all deaths from COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) in the EU in 2005 were attributable to tobacco use. Mortality from COPD is 14-times higher in cigarette-smokers than in non-smokers.

Benefits of quitting smoking?
The health benefits of quitting smoking are substantial. The greatest health benefits are for smokers without smoking-related diseases who stop smoking before they reach 35 years of age – they can reclaim a normal life expectancy. Smokers who stop later in life, however – even during their 70s – can expect to significantly reduce their risk of premature death.

Why is professional help needed?

Nicotine dependence is classified as a relapsing chronic disease, often requiring ongoing medical treatment, as do all other diseases, medical disorders, and drug dependencies. Many smokers will only be able to stop smoking and maintain long-term abstinence after receiving clinical treatment and management training for their nicotine dependence.

The effectiveness of individual counseling and pharmacotherapy in smoking cessation interventions is well established. An individual’s chances of success in quitting smoking can be almost doubled by the combination of face-to-face counseling and the use of smoking-cessation medications.
