Dr Samra Tahir completed her Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan in collaboration with Berkley University, USA. She has also obtained her Bachelor, Master and MPhil degrees in the field of Psychology from the same university in 2001.
Prior to joining ACPN, Dr Samra Tahir was working with Enable Ireland as a Senior Clinical Psychologist. Dr Tahir has worked primarily with children with neurodevelopmental disorders. She has an extensive experience in the diagnosis, intervention, management and counseling of children presenting with mental health problems, such as anxiety, depression, obsessive Compulsive Disorder, behavioral difficulties. Her expertise is also in diagnosis, intervention and management of children with Autism (ASD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADHD/ADD), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), etc. Dr Tahir has published number of research articles related to her expertise.
As a Senior Clinical Psychologist with the Enable Ireland, she was trained in providing play based assessment, training parents and other frontline staff members, including teachers. She has training in the use and interpretation of a variety of standardized psychological instruments to assess IQ, academic achievement of children and personality testing. She is also trained in providing strategies of intervention based on multi-functional assessment of behavior and intervention. Furthermore, she is experienced in personality testing of adults.
Since 2001, Dr Tahir has worked as a child Clinical Psychologist, setting up early intervention programs for young children with neurodevelopmetnal disabilities, mental health and development delay. She has been in close liaison with the child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) in Ireland assessing and discussing care plans for different inpatient and outpatient cases.
Prior to moving to Ireland in 2001, Dr Samra was working as a head of the Psychology Department in Khyber PukhtunKhwa, Pakistan, where she was accredited with designing and standardizing number of ability and personality assessment tools. Her role as a head of the department was to provide consultancy to the senior management about the suitability of candidates for government jobs in the public sector through the use of personality tests and achievement measures in conjunction with interview.
Dr Samra is well trained in psychotherapy and behavioural management of children and adults with mental health issues.
